While employers attempt to ensure their employees are provided with a safe and secure workplace by reducing the probabilities of accidents and injuries, it is vital to not overlook the employee stress.
Too much stress or too many responsibilities can increase the employee chances of stress not only high, but also making costly mistakes. A worse-case scenario is that if they are engaged in additional labour-intensive occupations, an excessive amount of stress can cause accidents.
Think your employees aren’t stressed? A recent study by Psychological State America, “Mind the Workplace,” found that:
- 81% of employees think that job stress affects their relationships with family and friends, a minimum of sometimes.
- 63% think that their workplace is unhelpful or hostile such they need to figure alone.
- 66% of employers don’t trust their co-workers, employees or team to support their work activities.
- 17% believe that their company appropriately deals with employees who don’t do their job.
A high stress work environment can cause variety of problems:
- Drug and alcoholic abuse
- Other medical issues
- Depression
- Worsened productivity
- Trouble concentrating
- Making mistakes
- Causing accidents
- Absenteeism and presenteeism.
